Key Instructions on the Rosary of Views (man ngag lta ba'i phreng ba) was written in the 8th century by one of the founders of Tibetan Buddhism, the Indian saint Padmasambhava. In contrast to the numerous revelatory teachings by the same author, called "terma" or "treasure" teachings, this short text was written by Padmasambhava himself and has been passed down from teacher to student for over twelve hundred years.

The content of this treatise is a commentary on the thirteenth chapter of the Tantra of the Secret Essence, The Guhyagharba Tantra (rgyud gsang ba snying po), which distills the teachings of the Nyingma Tradition's nine vehicles into a series of "key instructions" that can be easily practiced. In particular, it is one of the most renowned texts on the view of Buddhist Tantra, as it presents the various levels of tantra and elucidates their view, practice, and result, all the way up to the pinnacle of the Nyingma path, the Great Perfection.

Being one of the most well-known texts of the Nyingma School, it has been commented on for centuries and remains widely studied in Tibetan educational institutions to the present day. The most well-known commentary on this text was written by Rongzom Mahapandita, one of the earliest of the great Nyingmapa scholar-saints. Other commentaries have been written by Tsangton Dorje, Jamgon Kongtrul, and Ju Mipham. This project will focus on translating Padmasambhava's root text and two of these commentaries, those of Rongzom and Mipham. It is being carried out under the direction and guidance of Dzogchen Pönlop Rinpoche for use at the Nitartha Institute.
